Condiment rant

I really like to eat. It's an experience. I like to set the table nice, have everything one might need, make it all good and enhance the whole experience with the senses of sight and touch. What foils my plans are how condiments are packaged now. Remember glass, oblong ketchup bottles? Or little jars of mustard? How about barrel-shaped mayonnaise containers? Little jars of relish? Each item was unique in its presentation.

Now I look in the refrigerator and everything is in plastic bottles, and many are sqeezable. They all look almost the same. Very dull and boring. OK, plastic does not break when you drop it, sqeezable is easier for the youngins.

Let me ask you this: Do you ever remember breaking a condiment vessel on the floor? I did not think so. Was your ability to ingest nourishment as a child impeded by using a knife to scoop out mustard or mayonnaise? Was life really so hard hitting the "57" on the Heinz ketchup bottle?

I guess this rant really has no point other than to state that I am sick of everything coming in plastic and losing its character, much like much of modern life, and in my current foul mood I find it especially irritating. There. Done. Now you know.
