technology woes

I have been severely technology challenged for the last several days. No, not challenged. Cursed.
Damned power cord on the laptop died, etc., saga to find a new one, etc. Turns out it only charges the batteries, you cannot actually use the laptop when plugged in. Fine, whatever, Targus to the semi-rescue when Dell can't come through. Then came the "fuck you, you're fucked" deal, and the condom did not help, the machine is now totally dead. To quote computer-man at work: This is really bad. Oh yeah, it is. No files, no functioning software to show customers, no contact database with addresses, no calendar with my appointments, etc etc etc.

OK, fine. We have a spare, old laptop up here at the local office. It's about four years old. It's a good doorstop. Ethernet port dead. Wireless card not acknowledged. Other ethernet port on the PCMCICMMAIACMP card needs this ancient pig-tail deal, which I could not find anywhere. Was down to dial up. Camera won't work with it. I considered suing somebody for cruel and unusual punishment, but then decided that I am paying for sins not-yet committed. Then, the VPN from our office here would not behave. BUT, being with a wee company of 7 people, I can call computer-man at will for my files to go on to FTP, to check my appointments, to export my address book, etc. Imagine that working for big company - I'd be seriously fucked.

Then my cell phone refuses to charge. And my watch battery died.

The only things that worked in my world were my beard trimmer and the ipod-shuffle SHG lent me.

Finally found a defective pigtail that works if you place a can of beer on it. I'm back in high-speed business! Yay!

BTW, it's really time to go home. I miss my dogs, my cats, my bed. Only 3 days. SHG will retrieve me at the airport.
