What this country needs

OK Kids, time for something I have just been stewing over and not talked with anybody about. OK, with SHG. This is going to piss some folks off. Oh well.

Ready?

What does this country need to shock it out of its blind loyalty to the current administration and most of what it stands for a propagates? The Draft.

Yes Kids, The Draft.

The Draft will shock and scare the fuck out of middle-America: THEIR children going off to war, not these boys who are really more of a concept to them than a real, tangible life that is "honored" with a magnetic yeller-rib'n.

I grew up with parents who grew up in WWII Europe with bombs falling around them (one on each side), and so they're fairly pacifistic. Politically (and socially) very conservative. Protective of the U.S. and its citizens to the point of being rabid. But invade a sovereign nation for any reason whatsoever, unprovoked? Never. Total isolationists. Iraq drives them insane.

I grew up thinking very closely to their point of view. Oh Jezzuzz, ask MountainGirl and HoneyChild! When I was in college along came Gulf War I. There were vague rumblings about draft etc., but nothing serious. Nothing like now where we're over-extended and cannot project power as we may need to, or as the government may decide to. Well, it scared the living fuck out of me. It forced me to look outside of my world view, and happened to shove me one hard step to the Left. Not *too* far, more of an inward than outward step. Subsequent steps Left have systematically put me out to the "John Kerry is too moderate" side of things.

I think that such a shock to the entire country is just what we need to get us out of Iraq and get people thinking for themselves a little more. More and more body bags coming home, but containing their kids. Oh wait, we don't get to see that on our free-press TV.
