helicopter parents

An interesting story by way of honeychild on parents who take such an active, over-parenting role in their kids' college education/experience. This is along the lines of my post from earlier this month on children being somewhat ornamental today. I am of the opinion that Baby Boomer parents (ones later in the Baby Boomer generation) are so hyper-involved in their kids' lives not because they actually care that much more than Gen-Xers' parents, but rather because they want everything perfect for their kids so that they themselves do not look bad: It is an extension of the Baby Boomer obsession with image. What an irritating generation.
