Well, Katrina's tentacles swept Stepford today - a little windy out of the NE and then rain for about 30 minutes this afternoon. For comprehensive, sane, non-disastertainment coverage, visit Grashopper's blog, who is safe here with me here in Stepford after a 15 hour journey yesterday.
The TV has been on for about 18 of the last 24 hours. I think my head is going to explode. But, a truly necessary and acceptable evil. It's been CNN here for us. Here are couple of priceless quotes, and I have witnesses:
You know we are not prone to hyperbole here at CNN, so when we say this is going to be catastrophic, you know we mean it. [did you mean hyperbolic?]
Through a new technology called FTP, our reporter in New Orleans has been able to record his report and send it by computer. [honey, FTP is so 20 yrs ago]
All I can say is that the worst I have been through is a near-tornado that ripped trees down at my folks' house in 1997, leaving us without power for 48+ hours, and then the "Blizzard of 1995" when we got 38 inches of snow in NY/NJ and all was a mess and closed for two days. And for that I am grateful. I love New Orleans, all that it symbolizes, and the way of life there (though I am not sure it would be for me - semi-annual visits seem to suffice), and I hope and pray for it and its residents, great and small, rich and poor.
